3 Kitchen Organization Ideas
New Solutions to Age-old Challenges
While times will surely change, there are some things that won’t—like common challenges in the kitchen. With these helpful kitchen organization tips for home, learn to conquer cookbook clutter, organize messy spices and handle those less-than-desirable fridge fiascos.
Challenge 1: Cookbook Clutter
Solution: Color Coding
Where is that frosting recipe you always use again? Don’t waste time flipping through your cookbook pages. Instead, bookmark your favorite recipes with color-coded sticky tabs you can find at your local office supply store.
Choose different colors for different types of recipes such as appetizers, soups, crock-pot recipes, meats, sides and desserts. You can even label the tab with notes like “frosting” to help you find commonly used recipes even more easily.
Challenge 2: Messy Spices
Solution: A-B-C Spice Order
It seems simple enough, but many people don’t think to organize their spices in alphabetical order. The grocery does it and so do chefs, so try it in your own cupboard!
Also, label your spices with a date when you buy them. That way, if your spice doesn’t seem to be adding the flavor you’re looking for, you’ll know why. When dated, you’ll find it much easier to check and see if the bottle has been sitting on your shelf for longer than you thought.
Challenge 3: Fridge Fiascos
Solution: Weekly Cleanout
Sometimes a fridge can start to look like a big science experiment. Avoid moldy messes by cleaning out your kitchen fridge once a week. How do you keep on track with your clearing routine? Always clean it out right before your weekly trip to the grocery.
Not only can you make space for new items you’ll be bringing home shortly, this is also a great chance to take stock of items you may not have realized you were low on.
