Your kitchen sink has probably seen a lot—grease, sauce spills, and all types of food splatters! Think about it, your kitchen sink may just be the most-used appliance in your entire kitchen, if not your home. Here’s what you need to know to easily clean your stainless steel or enamel-coated sink with Dawn® Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray, so it shines (and works) like new.

What You’ll Need to Clean Your Kitchen Sink

It may be fair to say that a clean kitchen starts with a clean kitchen sink—and here’s everything you’ll need to clean your sink bowl, garbage disposal, faucet, and fixtures:
  • Concentrated dish soap that’s tough on stains and grease while staying gentle on sinks made of stainless steel, enamel-coated surfaces, Corian solid surfaces, dark and light granite, like Dawn® Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray.

  • Soft cloth and sponge

  • Soft-bristled toothbrush for hard-to-reach areas

Make sure you choose a cleaner and cleaning tools that are appropriate for use on your kitchen sink.

How to Clean Your Kitchen Sink

The kitchen is one of the most-used rooms in any home, and with leftover food particles and standing water, the kitchen sink may be the dirtiest spot in the house. With Dawn® Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray cleaning your kitchen sink and sink drain can be quick and easy!

1. Remove the Dishes.
It might sound like common sense, but in order to clean your sink you need to remove all of the items currently inside it.

2. Let it Spray.
Give your sink a quick rinse with warm water. Ideally, a sink hose or faucet attachment works best, but you can also use a wet rag or sponge to get the job done. Then apply one full spray of Dawn® Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray to each side of your sink.

3. Spray the Drain.
Apply one full spray of Dawn® around the drain.

4. Rub-A-Dub-Dub.
Use the soft side of a sponge or a soft brush in a circular motion to clean the bottom of the sink basin. Scrub the sides of the sink using the same circular motion.

5. Cleaning is in the Details.
Use a toothbrush to clean the dirty areas around the faucet and other hard-to-reach spaces.

6. Time for a Rinse.
Rinse the sides of the sink first. If you have a hose attachment or faucet pull-down, now is the time to use it. If not, fill a cup of water to rinse off the soap. Next, use a clean, dry towel to wipe down any remaining residue.

7. Garbage Disposal.
If you have a garbage disposal, freshen it by applying two full sprays of Dawn® Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray into the drain and letting it set for 30 seconds. Then run water into it for a few minutes until all suds have disappeared.

How to Clean Your Kitchen Sink Faucet and Fixtures

Just like the sink bowl, your faucet and kitchen sink fixtures are also prone to food gunk, grease stains, and hard water stains. Fortunately, cleaning up these stains and messes isn’t an all-day cleaning job and can be done in just a few simple steps:

Let’s begin by getting all your cleaning supplies together:

  • Concentrated dish soap liquid like Dawn® Platinum

  • Soft cloth and sponge

  • Water

  • Floss and soft-bristled toothbrush for hard-to-reach areas

Now that you’ve gathered your materials it’s time to clean your sink faucet and fixtures:

1. Start with warm water and a squeeze of Dawn® Platinum
2. Dip a soft cloth or clean sponge into the soapy mixture and rub along your faucet and sink handles
3. For extra food gunk and particles that can get stuck in hard-to-reach areas like the rim of your faucet, clean with floss! The thin thread can help pull out any of that leftover grime more easily
4. Rinse off your faucet and fixtures with water
5. Dry off thoroughly with a paper towel to keep hard water stains at bay

And you’re done! Your thoroughly cleaned sink and fixtures are now ready to tackle those tough kitchen messes all over again. With Dawn® by your side, cleaning your kitchen sink is easy—so you can focus on family dinner and less on the mess!
